Why should children learn philosophy? jordi nomen

It is a method that we use to feel sure of our opinions by supporting them with strong arguments, that are logical, that are valid, etc. At the same time that they ask themselves about the truth, that they are self-correcting. Critical thinking forces you to review the questions you ask yourself and to grow personally with them.
Not having critical thinking means being more easily manipulated. You lose the freedom to think for yourself, it is very easy to fall into prejudices and stereotypes because there is no rigorous work on your own thinking. This also implies the impossibility of reorganizing your thinking taking into account the ideas of others. There is a point of loss of diversity, of being unable to attend to what others propose to us.
To begin with, by being their example. As adults, as teachers, we must be a model of rigorous thinking, we must show that we also question ourselves. At the same time, we must allow time and space for them to be with other people, with their peers, building collective thinking. I am very much in favor of thinking together, that learning is collective. Many nuances and contradictions that we may have regarding our opinions are provided by others. This means that we need others to think better.

Why children should learn philosophy jordi nomen

-This task is not only for teachers. You don’t have to go to university and study philosophy to have a philosophical outlook. You simply have to get out of the context. A parent can read ‘The Ugly Duckling’ and ask his or her child: Why do they call you ugly? Have you ever been called ugly? Do you think it is appropriate to call a person ugly or is beauty much more than outward appearance? These types of questions are purely philosophical. It’s a matter of practice and desire.
-Of course. You have to go little by little. This does not require haste. Reflection always implies tranquility, rest and serenity. It is not necessary to force. It does not consist of asking the kids a list of ten questions.
